The Voice of Art Juried Artist
Richard Alan Cohen
I live in a beautiful area of Connecticut, minutes away from thousands of acres of State parks.
My photography highlights my reverential relationship with the environment through which I walk daily. To reflect that in my art, I focus on small natural features that I find there. From decaying tree stumps, mossy rocks, and waterfalls, I build imaginary landscapes. Even though they are intimate views of nature, I provide them with a larger perspective to emphasize their importance, both to me and to the world. I develop the light, color, and movement, to give my images an otherworldly appearance. This is both to set their subjects apart from the ordinary reality in which they are threatened by climate change and to pay them respect as objects of beauty.
